From the desk of Steve Evans

Welcome to the first edition of Fresh Air for 2010

As our financial year enters the fourth quarter, it is interesting to reflect on the state of our economy. It was barely a year ago we were in the depths of uncertainty. Our local stocks had eradicated all the gains of the previous six years and the Dow Jones dipped below 7,000, a level not seen since 1997. Many pundits were calling an end to the economic world as we knew it.

Fast forward 12 months. Our stock market is again above 5,000, its highest level in over 18 months. The Dow has piled on a massive 4,000 points to be above 11,000. Business confidence, and consequently investment in capital projects, has returned. There is buoyancy in most businesses as revenues trend higher as a result of the economic recovery.

It is paradoxical that we now find that despite the renewed vigour and commitment to capital projects, many world-leading technology organisations cannot fulfil demand. As a result of the economic slow-down, inventories of components and raw materials were depleted. The sudden recovery in economic activity has caught most manufacturers off-guard - there is simply not enough components available to create finished goods. Consequently, we are seeing extended lead teams on many core technologies. This is also true of AirData's key technology partners such as Motorola and Zebra. Whilst lead times are reducing, there still appears to be significant production backlogs.

The return of economic vibrancy is very good for larger, more stable and long-term technology providers such as AirData. During economic downturns, I see the emergence of smaller companies attempting to enter the market, often one-man-bands. These organisations typically operate on unsustainable margins and attract price sensitive buyers when capital is tight. Under normal economic circumstances, these organisations find survival difficult, particularly in the fast changing technology industry. They simply do not have the financial resources to keep pace with the industry and provide the support and backing companies' demand of their technology partners. My observation is we are seeing many of these smaller organisations disappear. I expect this market rationalisation will continue as companies increasingly look for strength and longevity in their technology partners.

Like many leading companies, AirData has experienced significant growth this year. What I find particularly pleasing is that we have enjoyed strong growth whilst maintaining a genuine focus on delivering value and quality services to our customers. As evidence of this, AirData was recently awarded Motorola's Service partner of the year. Whilst we receive several industry awards and recognition each year, I very much appreciated being recognised for our services by Motorola, a company that itself sets the standard in products and services.

Whilst on the subject of recognition, I was also very pleased with AirData being awarded Wavelink's Asia Pacific partner of the year. Similar to the Motorola Services award, we pride ourselves on our ability to assist our customers not only deploy mobility solutions, but also effectively manage and control those environments and devices.

We will have a great finish to our financial year. I expect the supply issues of our key partners will subside and product will flow freely allowing organizations to complete their transformation and mobility projects.

I wish you well as we enjoy the economic recovery.

Kind regards,
Steve Evans
Chief Executive Officer, AirData

Zebra HC100 Patient I.D. Solution
Developed specifically to meet the unique needs of healthcare providers, Zebra's reliable HC100 Patient I.D. Solution makes wristband printing easier and more cost-effective than laser solutions.

This solution combines the reliable HC100 direct thermal printer with easy-to-load cartridges containing the industry's only antimicrobial-coated wristbands-Zebra's Z-Band® wristbands.

Minimal training! Pop the wristband cartridge into the HC100 printer-print individual wristbands on demand. Compare these two simple steps with laser printing, which often requires staff to load forms into a special tray, print labels, apply a label to the band, and fold a laminate over the band.

The HC100 printer detects wristband size-adult, paediatric, infant-and automatically calibrates its settings for optimal print quality.
